Mission Statement


The mission of The Colorado Channel is:


1) To provide Coloradans with the opportunity to watch the Colorado General Assembly at work.

2) To provide legislators with a direct and unfiltered conduit to Coloradans through high quality non-commercial television coverage and the Internet.

3) To educate a new generation of civic leaders and voting citizens, and thus play a leading role in creating a civic culture in Colorado.

4) To adhere to broadcast production values that accurately convey the business of the General Assembly’s proceedings without editing, interpreting, or distorting the proceedings. It is the intent of the Colorado Channel Board of Directors that video coverage of House and Senate sessions not change or modify legislative procedures.

The Colorado Channel Authority

HB 09-1307 created the Colorado Channel Authority as a body corporate and a political subdivision of the state.  The authority is not an agency of state government, nor is it subject to administrative direction by any department, commission, board, bureau, or agency of the state.  The powers of the authority are vested in a board of directors.

The Colorado Channel Authority Board The board consists of 9 members as follows:

  • 3 members appointed by the Governor with the consent of the Senate, at least one of whom is a registered voter in this state who is unaffiliated, and at least one of whom has experience in the business operations of broadcast journalism;
  • 1 member appointed by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court;
  • 1 member appointed by the Speaker;
  • 1 member appointed by the House Minority Leader;
  • 1 member appointed by the President;
  • 1 member appointed by the Senate Minority Leader; and
  • 1 member jointly appointed by the President and the Speaker who has experience in the operation of a business or fundraising for nonprofit organizations, or both.
